Do you ever see those pics on Insta that make you food-horny? You know, your heart skips a beat, mouth salivates, stomach grumbles…and you wonder why your salad sandwich or bowl of porridge just doesn't do the same?
Well that's why we're here to help you up your Insta game with tips on creating the best #FoodPorn photos, ‘cause we all love taking photos of our bae, aka food.
Take photos under natural light
Do not use your built-in flash. Ever. Don’t be afraid to take the action outside. Daylight is perfect to bring out those natural colours.
Don’t overdo it on the filters
#NoFilter is exactly what we want! Use edits that enhance the foods natural beauty, don’t smother the colours by layering on the Valencia filter #SorryVal. Rather, increase the brightness and contrast slightly to boost the colours.
Garnishes add a little pop of freshness and make any dish more alluring. Don’t be shy mixing it up with herbs, chilli, sauces, or fruits. Think basil with pastas or passionfruit over yoghurt & muesli!
Create a story
Simple pretty plates, cutlery, and raw ingredients all help create a story around the food you’re shooting. In the foodie world, four’s a crowd…but three’s company. To keep things visually interesting, stick to odd numbers. Think garlic bread as a side to pizza or fresh lime, sour cream, and guac as an accompaniment to tacos!
Keep it simple and uncluttered. A plain backdrop will always draw the attention to the food. Mix it up by photographing different angles and when in doubt, add a human touch like a hand grabbing a drink (try our Youfoodz Cold Pressed Juice).
Now it’s your turn to turn us on! We want to see your #YFFoodPorn & make sure to tag @youfoodz us in your next meal snap!
